Story
Occupation:
School Excursion Coordinator, Away We Go Tours.
About me:
I live in Berridale NSW with my husband and two young boys (7 & 10), I have lived in Berridale for 20 years. Many people would probably know me best from the time I worked at Trading In Design but now you will find me booking schools into fantastic excursions at Away We Go Tours!
I am very active and love keeping fit by attending local boot camps, boxing classes and the gym. I also enjoy walking and mountain bike riding and my three boys keep me very busy with their cricket pursuits.
I have also been heavily involved with raising money for Breast Cancer, hosting many girls nights in and/or out in Berridale, the biggest event working with 5 other amazing women, founding the Mother’s Day Classic in Jindabyne.
Why I am participating in Monaro Spectacular:
Like so many others cancer has touched my life too.
I have lost family members, seen friend lose theirs and held the hands of friends who are battling the disease but one of the hardest things I have watched was when my husband and sister-in-law lost their father to cancer, there is a feeling of complete hopelessness in this situation, knowing the pain will never leave them.
My father fought his own battle with cancer, but thankful he is fine after treatment.
In 2012 one of my dearest friends was diagnosed with breast cancer. We sat in treatment rooms together, drove for hours to see doctors – it was a long road for her, her family and friends. I remember in 2010 the two of us helped waitress for the inaugural Dancing with the Cooma Stars (what an event!), that year’s event raised enough money to buy equipment for Cooma Hospital so cancer patients didn’t have to travel to Canberra.
It’s hard to imagine that when we attended the next Dancing with the Cooma Stars in 2012 that my friend was now diagnosed with breast cancer and we attended the Thursday night show just before she was to go in to Cooma Hospital for treatment and be one of the first people to use the equipment that mcCr had bought for the hospital.
When I was asked, I was shocked and a little surprised, but after talking with my husband about the commitments ahead, thinking about how mcCr has helped so many people on the Monaro, my family and friends included, it was kinda a no brainer – I was in!

Monaro Committee for Cancer Research Incorporated
The Monaro Committee for Cancer Research was formed in 1996 by the daughter of a young Monaro mother who after a 5 year struggle lost her battle with cancer. Since its inception the mcCr has supported cancer outreach services on Snowy Monaro. In 2007 after much lobbying, a local oncology service was introduced to the Cooma Hospital. Local support raised in excess of $100,000 towards this project and today we have a successful outreach oncology service. mcCr is a local voluntary group of dedicated women working towards further cancer support and services for the Snowy Monaro Region.Your support will enable mcCr to continue this assistance for cancer sufferers.
