About me:
I was born and raised in Cooma. My husband David and I moved to Canberra in 1993 but returned home after we had our wonderful son James. I have worked for DHS for 22 years (starting with Medicare in 1997). I am not sure if this shows a lack of ambition or an absolute passion for helping and supporting people.
Why I am participating in Monaro Spectacular:
The work mcCr does to support people and their families through the toughest times in their life is incredible. Like everyone, cancer has affected my family’s lives in such a devastating way. In October 2015, my father in law Richard Robinson lost his well fought battle with cancer. Throughout this time, mcCr provided support to Richard and in his final days, our family gathered in the Mary Green Memorial Palliative Care Family Room in the Cooma Hospital, funded by the mcCr.
The money raised by the Strictly Musical events is amazing, and it highlights what a wonderful community we are all a part of. This is a time when we all come together to raise a phenomenal amount of money to continue the mcCr’s work.
When I received my invitation, I was honoured and excited. It is nice to think that the mcCr think I would have enough support in the community to want to include me in such a wonderful event.
I am looking forward to working hard and having fun. I also would like to raise more than my brother (Steven Russell) did 4 years ago! Bring it on !

Monaro Committee for Cancer Research Incorporated
The Monaro Committee for Cancer Research was formed in 1996 by the daughter of a young Monaro mother who after a 5 year struggle lost her battle with cancer. Since its inception the mcCr has supported cancer outreach services on Snowy Monaro. In 2007 after much lobbying, a local oncology service was introduced to the Cooma Hospital. Local support raised in excess of $100,000 towards this project and today we have a successful outreach oncology service. mcCr is a local voluntary group of dedicated women working towards further cancer support and services for the Snowy Monaro Region.Your support will enable mcCr to continue this assistance for cancer sufferers.
