Story
Occupation:
Small Business Owner, Project Manager and Farmer
About me:
I am married to Jim Buckley and we have two beautiful boys Lachlan 18 and Casey James 16. Jim and I operate a contract weed spraying business controlling noxious weeds all over the Monaro region from Talbingo to the ACT boarder to Khancoban and beyond.
We also continue our family’s tradition of running farms at Adaminaby, Nimmitabel and Jindabyne breeding merino sheep, fat lambs and beef cattle. My family have been graziers on the Monaro for six generations coming to Adaminaby in 1848 and Jim’s family have been in Nimmitabel for five generations.
As well as my day job and being a Mum to my two active sons, much of my time in summer is taken up training and competing my horse to gain qualifications to compete at Royals. Other interests are snow skiing, running and yoga.
Why I am participating in Monaro Spectacular:
Unfortunately like many other families, my family has been touched with cancer having lost my mother while I was pregnant with our youngest son, Casey. The stress and strain from the endless trips to Canberra for treatment was very stressful and financially draining for all concerned.
Jacquie Sellers (Rose) experienced a similar loss of her mother, but rather then retreating and concealing her grief she chose to try and find a way to help cancer patients on the Monaro and formed what has now evolved into the Monaro Committee for Cancer Research.
After the initial shock of receiving the invitation to participate in such an event.......and the trepidation and apprehension of getting up on stage! I reflected on the amazing commitment and efforts that the MCCR Committee puts in for our community. They have worked tirelessly to be able to offer treatment in Cooma and offer financial support. I could not refuse such a worthy cause that’s so close to my heart.
My Choreographers are:
Rosie O’Sullivan and Kim Neville
Monaro Committee for Cancer Research Incorporated
The Monaro Committee for Cancer Research was formed in 1996 by the daughter of a young Monaro mother who after a 5 year struggle lost her battle with cancer. Since its inception the mcCr has supported cancer outreach services on Snowy Monaro. In 2007 after much lobbying, a local oncology service was introduced to the Cooma Hospital. Local support raised in excess of $100,000 towards this project and today we have a successful outreach oncology service. mcCr is a local voluntary group of dedicated women working towards further cancer support and services for the Snowy Monaro Region.Your support will enable mcCr to continue this assistance for cancer sufferers.
